Front-line journalist who has covered the major conflicts of the past two decades – from the Rwandan genocide to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan Award-winning journalist and videographer MENA and AFPAK area expert M.A student – Department of War Studies: King’s College London I began working as a journalist in South Africa in the 1980s as a photographer covering the Anti-Apartheid struggle for the international news agency the Associated Press. After 13 years I switched to television and began working for the South African Broadcasting Corporation. Within a year I had won the CNN African Journalist of the Year Award and was working for CNN based out of their London bureau. After five years covering the War on Terror I was transferred to Jerusalem where I was the West Bank and Gaza cameraman for the network. In 2007 I was hired by CBS News where I worked for two years with Lara Logan, CBS News’ Chief International Correspondent. I then went freelance in Johannesburg working for a variety of news companies including the BBC, Al Jazeera, Sky News and ZDF, both inside South Africa and beyond. Specialties: I have specialised in working in hostile environments and have covered wars across Africa, Eastern Europe, South Asia and the Middle East.
