Hello! I’m so thrilled you’ve shown an interest in My Smart Hands. I am a clinical Speech Pathologist with a Masters degree from Ohio University. I know first hand the importance of early invention and the frustration that occurs when your child can’t communicate. My heart belongs to teaching the youngest children to communicate. Although some parents are skeptical about signing with their baby, it is definitely one of the most effective means of communication to use prior to first spoken words. Signing with your baby at a young age provides extraordinary and lasting benefits. I can testify that signing with my son helped decrease communication breakdowns and increase his verbal vocabulary beyond typical age appropriate milestones. I have also seen other children, with whom I’ve worked with during therapy, significantly increase their communication skills through learning/using simple signs. My husband and I enjoy being parents to our children and being a mom has made me a better Speech Pathologist to the families I serve because I know first hand the ups and downs of a day with a toddler. I fully understand the importance of your child being able to communicate the simplest wants/needs to you. Signing will make your days less stressful and more enjoyable by helping your child communicate!! I look forward to meeting and signing with you and your child!
