My name is Leah and this is my first year teaching art to the littlest kiddos - aged 2-5! I work in a daycare learning center where I teach each class for 30 minutes twice a week. I like the unstructured Reggio Emilia process art approach, but I also feel that without some structure, the kids are "done" quickly. Some projects are more structured than others, but always with some element of learning such as art vocabulary, small motor development, and/or decision-making. Every day my students teach me how to teach them. I'm still learning their abilities and preferences and they are quick to show me what I'm doing right and what I need to change. Their hugs, smiles, and excitement are what keep me going. I am creating this blog to remind myself what works and what doesn't so I can improve for next year, as well as help other teachers in my profession though my experiences.
