Van MacLellan

Washington

Bred, born and raised in rural eastern Washington, I grew a knack for entertaining myself. Imagination became my companion. And when I tortured my mother with drawn out stories infested with atrocious adverbs, she'd scoot me outside, where I'd frolic with the animals, wander the desert fields, or play with little plastic people and their make-believe community. Nature and stories. The foundation of my life. Schooling took me down the path of science and engineering, and I turned away from stories. The solid answers of math and engineering seemed easier than appeasing some professor with a creative essay. And was much faster. The path of life is not always a straight line. Ten years ago reading brought me back to my love of words. Everyone was writing, and I decided to toss my sentences into the fray. And it was fun. Thousands of words of short stories, NaNoWriMo year after year. I was in the middle of it! And then I had the crazy idea of getting published. My journey now lands me in the finding an agent process. One novel written and polished, another in the polishing phase. Short stories seeking homes. I've got twelve balls in the air and I'm struggling not to drop a one. That's true talent, kid.
